Chapter 2 Progress

We worked in Chapter 2 today. We talked about the spelling of verbs when we add -ing and -ed, and we talked about the principal parts of a verb.

Questions: How many principal parts do most English verbs have? What are they? Why is it important to know the principal parts of a verb? Leave a comment if you know the answers.

Tonight's homework:
Workbook, Chapter 2, Practices 6, 7, and 11. These are found on pages 18, 19 and 22.

A New Week

Today we had a quiz on Chapter 1, corrected it, and began Chapter 2. So far, Chapter 2 should be a review for you about the past tense.

We also talked about your Learner's Notebook. Don't forget to write in it EVERY day. Write the principles we learn with examples, your corrections, and your thoughts about what you're learning.

Homework:
1. Write in your Learner's Notebook for last Thursday and today.
2. Finish text book exercise #2 in Chapter 2.
3. Workbook: Chapter 2, practices 2 & 3 (I think that's right. I didn't bring my workbook home, so I can't check.)

Keep up the Good Work!

I'm really pleased to see that everyone is doing their homework. Good job! And I'm always happy when you have questions. If you don't understand something, be sure to ask. If I don't know the answer, or can't find it right away, I'll look it up and tell you the next day.

Today we briefly reviewed adverbs of frequency, then we talked about singular and plural nouns and verbs, spelling rules for adding -s or -es, and non-action verbs.

Tonight's homework:
• Workbook Chapter 1, Practice 16, 18 and 21 (pages 9, 10 and 12)
• Learner's Notebook--You will turn this in tomorrow by 3 p.m. You may give it to me in class, or put it in my box in room 103 by 3 p.m. You should have two days of entries in it (yesterday and today).
• Study Chapter 1--We'll have a quiz on it tomorrow!

Keep up the good work!

First Day of School

You survived your first day of school! Here's a reminder of what we did in class today: We got to know each other a little better, and talked a little about the syllabus and this blog.

Homework for tomorrow:
1. Explore this blog and comment on something you found helpful.
2. Buy your books and school supplies. See the syllabus if you can't remember what you need. We will be using Principles of Self-Regulation  tomorrow, and the textbook and workbook by Wednesday.

See you tomorrow!

Welcome!

Hello FC Grammar Students!

Welcome to Winter Semester at the ELC. I'm looking forward to spending a semester with you studying English grammar, which I love! I'll try to help you enjoy it, too.

Get to know my homework blog. It has some useful resources, like the class syllabus and calendar, which are more up-to-date than the one I gave you. There is also a page with TONS of helpful websites for learning, reading, writing, speaking and listening to English.

In addition to those resources, I will post what we covered in class and what the homework assignment is everyday. So if you forget what the homework assignment is, then look it up on the blog. Or if you are absent, check the blog to see what we covered and what you should do to be prepared for class when you return.

And let's have a great semester!

-Mrs. Bay
